The AECF (http://www.aecfafrica.org) is an Africa-based $250 million challenge fund that aims to reduce poverty by supporting private sector businesses that have a positive impact on rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, the AECF supports businesses in agriculture, agribusiness, rural financial services and communications systems, renewable energy and adaptations to combat climate change. The AECF provides
catalytic funding in the form of grants and zero interest loans to businesses that would not otherwise have access to adequate financing.

The AECF is part of the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) family and has been supported by governments (Australia, Canada, Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom), and international financial institutions (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor and IFAD).

The AECF has recently been spun out of AGRA, and is in the process of building itself to become independent development institution. The AECF is building a team of leaders to leverage its success to date, with a goal to doubling its impact over the next five years. To date the organization has supported more than 250 businesses across 23 countries in Sub Saharan Africa. These companies in turn have impacted 10 million individuals by improving their incomes and access to clean sustainable energy.

Position Overview:

The Donor Relations Officer will act as the primary relationship manager for one or more donors in regard to financial and narrative reporting, donor reviews, audits etc. The position holder will support the Director, Strategy, Partnerships in the design and implementation of AECF’s Resource Mobilization strategies and plans related to cultivating AECF’s donor relationships management strategy. To be successful, the selected candidate will require credible expertise in donor prospecting, proposal writing, solicitation and cultivation, donor stewardship and events management.

Specific roles and responsibilities will include:

. Resource mobilization from bilateral and multilateral donors, philanthropic foundations, individuals and other sources.
. Support Director, Strategy & Partnerships and other senior program staff on partnership and donor engagement strategies, donor and government relations and other strategic partnerships.
. Manage the relationships for AECF’s lead and founding donors and other donors ensuring ongoing and consistent engagement with AECF’s key donors, including alignment and continued support from the donors.
. Internally liaise with Program Team Leaders and Program Officers in donor stewardship, reporting and expansion of support.
. Principal liaison to the Portfolio Management, Strategy, Partnerships and Learning Divisions: ensuring continued and consistent engagement, documentation of information for donors.
. Prepare concept notes and proposals for donor funding across all AECF programs as needed.
. Building relations with key bilateral and donor agencies, including Australia, Canada, Sweden and DFID.
. Prospecting, cultivating, solicitation and stewardship of a diverse set of donors including bilateral, foundation and multilateral donors.
. Working closely with program staff to ensure that the program delivery is at par with donor expectation.
Sits on program taskforces as required.

Required qualifications and experience:

. Relevant undergraduate degree from a reputable institution.
. A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as marketing,communications, public administration,international relations and Development Studies.
. Relevant professional development programs that enhance skills in resource mobilization
. Minimum of 7 years’ experience in resource mobilization for large multilateral or bilateral agencies or international organizations primarily in Africa. Experience in relevant AECF sectors preferred.
. Minimum of 3 years’ experience at a management position in a donor development and resource mobilization role.
. Experience in resource mobilization to support private sector development programs.
. An understanding of the operations of donors and international development organizations.
. Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to prepare proposals, reports and concept papers to a high level of proficiency.
. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-cultural teams.
. Fluency in English is a requirement. Language skills in French, Portuguese or Kiswahili will be an added advantage.
