The AECF (http://www.aecfafrica.org) is an Africa-based $250 million challenge fund that aims to reduce poverty
by supporting private sector businesses that have a positive impact on rural communities in Sub-Saharan
Africa. Specifically, the AECF supports businesses in agriculture, agribusiness, rural financial services and
communications systems, renewable energy and adaptations to combat climate change. The AECF provides
catalytic funding in the form of grants and zero interest loans to businesses that would not otherwise have
access to adequate financing.

The AECF is part of the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) family and has been supported by
governments (Australia, Canada, Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom), and international
financial institutions (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor and IFAD).

The AECF has recently been spun out of AGRA, and is in the process of building itself to become independent
development institution. The AECF is building a team of leaders to leverage its success to date, with a goal to
doubling its impact over the next five years. To date the organization has supported more than 250 businesses
across 23 countries in Sub Saharan Africa. These companies in turn have impacted 10 million individuals by
improving their incomes and access to clean sustainable energy.

Position Overview:

The Finance Assistant has responsibility under the guidance of the finance manager of ensuring that the
financial policies and procedures, control and systems are followed and implemented properly in accordance
with AECF and donor regulations. To be successful, the selected candidates will require credible expertise in
interpretation and implementation of financial policies and procedures, financial planning, financial reporting
and budgeting and budget management.

Specific roles and responsibilities will include:

. Initiating local all Payments while ensuring they are complete and accurate and that funds have reached the designated recipients
. Ensure that all payments have adequate supporting documents and that all necessary authorizations have been obtained.
. Updating and maintaining all payment transactions in the AECF systems in a timely and accurate manner
. Filing and/or facilitating proper custody of all source documents as required
. Negotiating and comparing exchange rates with the banks and advising the finance manager accordingly
. Ensuring safe custody of cheque books and ordering new ones in a timely manner
. Ensuring that the ledger balances are in agreement with the bank statements at least on weekly basis
. Responsible for staff accounts administration by ensuring review of the respective staff accounts and other receivable accounts on a regular basis and responding to staff queries.
. Prepare and submit monthly status reports, monthly cash forecasts and cash flow statements

. Preparing statutory payments and ensuring submission of returns and pay cheques before the due dates
. Provide direct support in the external financial audit process, especially in furnishing of required
information to an audit questions that may arise, as relates payments, cash balances and receivables
Required qualifications and experience:

. Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting or Finance specializations or similar qualifications.
. Qualification in an accredited Accounting body such as CPA or ACCA
. A Master’s degree in finance and accounting related fields will be an added advantage.
. Good working knowledge of not-for-profit and private foundation law and accounting regulations
. Computer proficiency and familiarity with a range of software applications including MS Excel, MS Word, and accounting packages.
. Proficient in Microsoft NAV dynamics software
. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in general accounting and financial management, preferably in a not for profit sector or fund management setting
. Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to prepare financial reports
. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-cultural teams.
. Fluency in English is a requirement. Language skills in French, Portuguese or Kiswahili will be an added advantage.
