Having passed the Administrative Assessment Support Test (ASAT) in English at Headquarters, ECA, ESCWA, UNOG, UNOV, ICTR, or ICTY may be recognized in place of the GGST, pending confirmation of validity.
Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension. Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.

Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environment authority that sets the global environment agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations System and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This post is located in the Enterprise Solutions Unit/Corporate Services Division, in Nairobi.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
A.) Develop new systems / modules.
• Participate in the analysis, design, code, test and implementation of simple computer application systems modules and functionalities.
• Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of computer application systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements.
• Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations.
• Maintain functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified.
B.) Maintain and support existing systems.
• Provide support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users’ offices; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests, in particular related to the Ozone Secretariat.
• Install computer application systems software and hardware according to specifications; monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports.
• Draft correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
C.) Provide training and technical assistance.
• Serve as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units, in particular to Ozone Secretariat to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions.
• Provide guidance to new/junior staff.
D.) Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of relevant programming language(s) and ability to use programming skills to develop information systems. Knowledge of system development workflow and document flow processes, ability to conduct research and gather information from a wide variety of standard and non-standard sources. Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Supplementary training in Computer Science or Inforaiton Technology or a related field is desirable. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of work experience in information systems analysis, programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development and technical writing or related area. Working knowledge of open source systems (LAMP stack) is highly desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
