The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Central Support Services, Mail Pouch and Archives Unit at the Nairobi duty Station. Under the general supervision of the Chief, Mail, Pouch and Archives Unit the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
1.Unload and sort incoming mail, interoffice correspondence, cables, documents, confidential/sensitive mails and packages.
2.Weigh and notify staff members electronically, upon arrival of packages, letters or magazines for collection.
3.Make deliveries and pick-ups in accordance to the daily schedule.
4.Sort and send out picked-up mail to other mail stations.
5.Report on the volume of all mail, documents and packages received and dispatched on a
6.Ensure that mail is clearly and correctly addressed.
7.Alert supervisor on receipt of tampered mail.
8.Ensure that outgoing mail contains only approved material.
9.Conduct statistical count daily, of all mail, documents, specials and packages received and
dispatched; maintains accurate records.
10.Log all registered items: Visa cards, cheque books, registered mails and delivers them against signature.
11.Provide support documentation required for preparation of statistics, accounts, reports, and

A High school diploma or equivalent is required. Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Successful passing of the Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) in English at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ), Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.
The GGST is administered to applicants when required before the administration of a written assessment and/or interview.
At least one year of relevant experience preferably in mail and pouch operations and/or office environment is required.
Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Windows Applications) required.
Knowledge of Umoja is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
