Social Media Consumption in Kenya
SIMElab Africa (Social Media Lab Africa) is a Social Media Consumption and Analytics Research Lab housed at USIU-Africa’s Freida Brown Innovation Center. SIMElab Africa offers a research and development environment to USIU-Africa faculty and students, civil society and corporate businesses, and policymakers in Kenya and beyond. SIMELab is jointly funded by USA Embassy in Nairobi and USIU-Africa. SIMElab also engage masters’ and doctoral students in Communication, Information and Communication Technologies (Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology) programs and Interdisciplinary Research in Social Media Use and Social Media Network Analysis. SIMElab has successfully produced annual status report on social media consumption in Kenya for the last two years and has been conducting quarterly trainings on social media analytics to academics, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private sector in Kenya.
The project team now seeks to recruit 4 research assistants to work closely with the SIMElab Team. The research assistants will help in Big Data collection and analysis, literature reviews for publications, website content development and any other duties as may be assigned.
A Masters or Undergraduate degree in Communication, IT or any other relevant field of study
Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Strong inter-personal skills.
Strong interest in gaining research skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Having gone through USIU-Africa research training and/or having membership in the Research Club through the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension will be an added advantage. We also encourage those writing their thesis and dissertation on Social Media, Data Mining, Database Development, Digital Marketing to approach researchers at the center for assistance in positioning their papers. The output for the assignment will be weekly and monthly reports, support in developing journal papers, conference publications and support in development of research projects and scholarly articles.
