The Aga Khan University, Department of Haematology-Oncology invites applications for the position of an Associate Director, Administration, Strategic Management & Finance.

Reporting to the Director, Cancer Centre, the successful candidate maintains responsibility for the direction of the day-to-day operations of Cancer Center in terms of a)administrative management, b)strategic planning, c) growth d)oncology service line development and stewardship, and e) financial integrity. In partnership with the Director, the candidate will oversee the development/delivery of assigned responsibilities, collaborate with the associate directors of the various Cancer Center research programs, hospital leadership and senior hospital management teams and clinical leaders to ensure activities/programs are consistent with the Cancer Center’s and AKU’s mission and vision, and in compliance with the ethos and principles of the Cancer Center and the Aga Khan University.

Responsibilities

The candidate, will in consultation and partnership with the Cancer Center Director perform the following functions:

  • Ensure strategic direction and goals/objectives for area (s) of responsibility are established/aligned with Cancer Center’s strategic priorities and that effective clinical research / programmatic support services are in place to ensure optimal cancer research; maintaining responsibility development of new programs and services; manage financial resources, including establishing financial/administrative controls and approving/allocating funds required to implement growth and development of the Cancer Center;
  • Oversees/promotes the Quality Program and process of new research and clinical program development;
  • Manages program/services & cancer center human resources in collaboration with existing cancer center management and leadership;
  • Acts as a key member on advisory and executive committees;
  • Liaises with cancer center senior leaders to coordinate and ensure efficient operationalization of services and oncology service lines;
  • Liaises/collaborates with internal/external stakeholders to ensure practice/service standards are aligned/integrated across programs;
  • represents the Cancer Center administration in the achievement of the program strategic and operational plans;
  • Oversees administrative and support services of the Cancer Center;
  • Assists the AKU Resource Development team’s fundraising initiatives in support of the Cancer Center;
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Health Administration, or a recognised equivalent
  • Clinical Professional Degree
  • Registered Health Professional with a local or international college
  • Extensive knowledge/experience of/in clinical oncology service lines, palliative care and home service delivery
  • Experience working with multiple teaching and academic healthcare centers to establish Centers of Excellence
  • Proven track record in establishing global partnerships and collaborations
  • Ten years relevant progressive leadership experience including program/service experience in a leadership role within an academic health sciences organization
  • Experience managing and leading teams of staff and projects in a complex environment
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent computer skills, using Windows NT, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and able to use Internet software.Business development, proposal development and government relations experience
  • Experience working with multiple partners and institutions locally or regionally
  • Membership in a relevant professional association
  • Possession of the following core competencies: leadership of self, engaging others, results orientation, partnership development and systems transformation. Other critical competency and skill requirements include team working, leadership, negotiation, time management, initiative, sound judgement, conflict resolution, service orientation, confidentiality, inclusiveness, administrative and managerial finesse underpinned by excellent written and verbal communication skills, highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstration of the highest level of professional conduct.
  • Personal attributes necessary for success in this role include being whole systems/strategic thinker, Enabler/facilitator, a leader of change, natural problem solver, integrity, open, honest, transparent communicator, adaptable, flexible and excellent relationship builder.
