To effectively achieve this, RO ESA works with a broad range of partners and stakeholders both local and international within the different spheres of its work.

As RO ESAs work grows in scale and impact, we are looking for an experienced, ambitious and self-motivated person to join the office and lead the implementation of an effective fundraising strategy aimed at securing a diverse and sustainable long term financial base to ensure independence of action and support the implementation of RO ESAs strategy and operational plans). This is a unique opportunity to shape the development and implementation of RO ESA fundraising strategy and make a valued contribution to an innovative programming modality. The selected candidate should be able to demonstrate a proven track record of managing and implementing successful fundraising initiatives.

About the position

This position is based in Nairobi, reporting to the Regional Manager Regional Office Eastern and Southern Africa (RO ESA) and is responsible for fundraising and programmes development. The role entails having close relationships with programmes staff and finance staff.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Build up relations with existing and new funders/donors to present new, wider areas of ForumCiv’s work to the donors to sustain and expand the relationship for the future
  •  Implementing the funding raising strategies for the RO ESA
  • Lead in the development of proposals and or concepts, their submission and track follow-up with the donor/funding body for the RO ESA
  • Conduct donor mapping for the region and develop a funding plan and create a pipeline of opportunities.
  • Establish, update, and maintain donor/funders database of contacts and preferences
  • Review the strengths of the regional office, looking at emerging opportunities to further develop our fundraising strategy with the Regional Manager, with a focus on developing a diverse range of funders/donors
  • Support the Regional Manager and the global fund-raising unit to identify strategic partners and platforms for creating visibility of ForumCiv work to attract long term funding opportunities.  
  • Work closely with the programmes team and other related functions in developing concepts/proposals and to ensure understanding of any implications, risks and opportunities of funding opportunities/applications/awards.
  • Network with ForumCiv and other partners for mutual benefits on common donors/funders strategies
  • Provide reports on a regular and tertial basis to the Regional Manager on progress of fundraising efforts
  • To maintain knowledge of current fundraising procedures and legislation affecting fundraising activities within the charitable sector
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

Experience

  • Evidenced track record of developing successful fundraising applications to  major donors and/or funding institutions (eg Trusts, Foundations, EU, Sida, USAID etc) showing clear evidence of success in securing funding
  • Experience of putting together and packaging persuasive and imaginative fundraising proposals for presentation to targeted institutional donors, including European Commission, USAID, World Bank and UN agencies
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm and capabilities to work with colleagues providing training, resourcing, and support to develop their capacity to share in fundraising activities.
  • Experience of producing high quality donor funding progress report and project budgets
  • Experience and knowledge of donor portfolios, priorities, rules and requirements, including analysis of reasons for success or failure and corrective action necessary to improve the success rate of funding applications.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the development sector working with INGO / National Organisation

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Social Science, Political Science, Human rights, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Trained in Fundraising / Resource Mobilisation and programmes development

Skills

  • Demonstrated networking experience
  • Knowledge and experience in the International development sector
  • Good understanding of the role of the civil society for/in development in the Eastern and Southern Africa region.
  • Good knowledge of rights-based approaches to development.
  • Good contextual knowledge in socio-political and economical areas within the areas of operation. 
  • Good command of English language
  • Outstanding communication skills, including experience of communicating and presenting effectively across varied audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to build strong and lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Highly analytical and detail oriented
  • Excellent relationship management skills
