The role; You will play an important role in sourcing the best deals, negotiating hard and working collaboratively with internal customers and external suppliers for an ambitious Pan-African company.
Reporting into: Global Head of Supply Chain
Key responsibilities
Organizational:
- Primarily focused on supporting the Logistics and Customer Service (LCS) managers to unlock improved efficiency and productivity while maintaining a lean cost structure
- Continuous improvement effort to the LCS SOPs / policies / work instructions / review documents / project plans with an aim to:
- Promote and improve on the productivity and efficiency of the LCS function in country / region
- Enhance the customer service experience journey promoting retention
- Enhance the work experience of LCS team
- Reduce redundancy
- Eliminate risk
- Constantly engage with LCS Managers:
- To surface on time all possible commodities OOS to FMCG BU – Procurement for support on the replenishment cycle
- To surface all price conflicts (where PO value or item quantity is not equal to supplier AP invoice or DN value) for escalation to FMCG BU – Procurement for support and resolution
- To collect all commodities supplier deliveries and performance for revelation to FMCG BU – Procurement for supplier scorecards evaluation
- To provide insights on inventory related issues to the business for support where FMCG BU intervention is required or through the Global team lead for strategic decision / support where necessary
- Lead the purchase of non – commodities inventory goods and services by securing price, capacity and service levels in line with commitments to the BU by applying a wide range of sourcing tools (e.g. negotiation, strategic collaboration, RFIs, RFPs or RFQs etc.)
- Drive effective risk management of the LCS supply base through robust supply negotiated terms. Implement corrective actions as is appropriate where there is a deviation from the agreed terms Manage all related commercial, financial and ethical aspects of executed buying runs
- Drive the LCS BU to align with budgeted buying plans while keeping maverick spend at less than 2% of the total non commodities inventory and services spend
- Support the LCS operations teams in unlocking areas of cost savings or avoidance in their budgeting plans by;
- Surfacing potential technological improvement opportunities that leverage on CAPEX but reduce on OPEX
- Sourcing for alternative vendors for traditional services with a cost saving benefit
- Driving for continuous annualised reduction in OPEX through negotiating campaigns with existing suppliers e.g. spare parts vendors or motor vehicle insurance or cross border logistics service providers
- Responsible for providing support, training and guidance to junior and / or new team members. As well as coaching and motivating local operations buyers in the achievement of their objectives
- Identify, achieve and report on cost savings and value targets for all non – inventory buying activities
- Demonstrate leadership by regularly maintaining & updating relevant OKRs
- Advise, train and mentor junior supply chain team members
Key Relationships:
Internal stakeholders: All business units and support functions of the business
External stakeholders: All suppliers involved in solving business supply challenges
Key skills and competencies
- Required: 4 – 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Preferred: Strong background as a Procurement Specialist managing CAPEX, OPEX or MRO
- Bachelor degree, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance or Statistics
- Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced sales environment
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of procurement processes and procedures with a strong bias for project management
- Strong data analysis and superior organizational skills,
- Strong oral, written communication & presentation skills
- Willingness to travel for work across East Africa
- Must love working with people and cross cultural teams
