Job Description Physiology Technician

Job Contract Type PERMANENT

Job Grade KABU 6

Job Profile Description

•Examines blood and other fluids for normal and abnormal cells, counts cells using a microscope.      
•Types and cross-matches blood samples for transfusions and prepares products for transfusion.     
•Proficiency in computer applications     
•Makes cultures of body fluids and tissue samples to determine the presence of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and other organisms.     
•Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.     
•Provide technical information about test results to students and researchers.     
•Supervise and conduct practical sessions.     
•Develop, standardize, evaluate, and modify procedures, techniques and tests used in the analysis of specimens.     
•Performs start-up, maintenance, and troubleshoots procedures on instruments and laboratory equipment per established laboratory protocols.     
•Performs and evaluates QC and calibration, and data entry and assessment     
•Tests for electrolytes, enzymes and drug levels in the blood.    

Person Profile Description

Applicants should be holders of Bachelor’s Degree in Human physiology; specialization in haematology is an added advantage.
Applicants should posses the following key competence; ability to work well with others, ability to teach and communicate, high level of dependability and maturity, ability to handle confidential matters and to be professional.
Experience working in a similar environment as Physiology Technician in an Institution of higher learning is an added advantage.
