About Crisis Action

Crisis Action exists to protect civilians at risk from violent conflict or the widespread and systematic abuse of human rights that can provoke it.

We are a catalyst and strategic convenor, with a unique, award-winning model of building coalitions from a global network of organisations and individuals, to compel those in power to uphold obligations to protect civilians and to address factors that cause and sustain conflicts. Our partners and allies include grassroot movements, local and international NGOs, humanitarians and human rights activists, politicians and peacebuilders, faith leaders, academics, artists and businesspeople.

We serve the goals of the coalitions we build, taking neither policy positions nor profile. It is the voice of the coalition that counts. We work through innovative campaigns that shift power towards populations at risk from conflict and spur action to ensure the safety and rights of these populations are prioritised in line with international human rights and humanitarian law. We strive to empower those we work with and also provide platforms for those with direct experience of conflicts to tell their stories and speak truth to power. We are an international, independent, and not-for-profit, with a diverse global team of about 50 people strategically located where decisions to protect and prevent conflict and abuses are made. We have presence in Addis Ababa, Beirut, Brussels, Johannesburg, London, Nairobi, New York, Paris and Washington DC.

We are currently working to save lives in Syria, the Sahel, South Sudan and Yemen. We continually monitor other potential and actual conflicts and engage in shorter-term “emergency response” campaigns, recently including Nagorno-Karabakh, Myanmar, Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories and Mozambique.
What others say about Crisis Action
“Crisis Action is one of the most effective advocacy organizations in the humanitarian world. The work they do to educate and mobilize political leaders, the media, and caring citizens about difficult and forgotten crises makes the difference. Millions of lives are being saved because of what they do. “Lise Grande, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen

“Crisis Action’s energy and strategic approach to tackling conflict around the world is a model we can all learn from.” Oby Ezekwesili, Co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls movement

“Crisis Action continues to prove that its model works and has impact.  We repeatedly see that policymakers are more likely to take stronger and more effective action when NGOs coordinate and collaborate.  Crisis Action helps make this happen.” Kenneth Roth, Executive Director, Human Rights Watch

“I paint murals on the walls of Sana’a so that the innocent victims of Yemen’s vicious war will not be forgotten. Crisis Action brought my work to the attention of the media – and now the whole world must face up to the horror happening in my city.” Haifa Subay, Yemeni street artist

“Crisis Action demonstrates the impact of strategic, coordinated advocacy in an era of increasing threats to civilians in conflicts around the globe. With new challenges to global cooperation, Crisis Action’s model of helping civil society work together is more essential than ever.” David Miliband, President and CEO, International Rescue Committee.
