Description of task
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Human Rights Adviser, OHCHR/RCO, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Support the effective functioning of the UNCT Prevention and Integrated Analysis Platform, and the implementation of the Secretary-General’s Prevention Agenda and Call to Action for Human Rights;
- In the pre-electoral and electoral context, undertake early warning and prevention analysis, analysing political, human rights, socio-economic and other areas of risks and opportunities based on diverse sources of information, working in collaboration with the OHCHR information management officer, RCO data specialist, colleagues from UN agencies and other stakeholders;
- Produce analytical reports, updates and briefings (periodic, thematic and geographic, as required) to inform discussions by the UNCT and other stakeholders on prevention and risk mitigation measures;
- Support other UN efforts on prevention of violence and risk mitigation in the lead up to general elections, including engagement on democratic governance, civic space, rule of law and sexual violence;
- Perform other related duties as required

Educational additional comments
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in human rights, political science, international relations, law or other related field. A first-level university degree in combination with at least three years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, governance and rule of law, political affairs, international relations, humanitarian affairs, public information/journalism or related field is required. Demonstrated ability to undertake multi-dimensional analysis based on diverse sources is highly desirable. Experience in drafting analytical documents and briefings is desirable. Field experience is desirable. Experience in or knowledge of East Africa is desirable.

Prerequisites This assignment is funded by the Government of the Republic of Ireland, therefore only the following are eligible to apply: Irish citizen or a European Economic Area national with an unrestricted right to reside in Ireland or have a declaration of refugee status from the Minister for Justice and Law Reform. This is a UN Volunteer assignment and eligible candidates must be 25 years of age or older. Selection process Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
