It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

The Heavy Vehicles Driver transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive different types of light and heavy ICRC vehicles within and outside Kenya by strictly following internal security and national traffic rules;
• Ensure vehicles are always refueled in time and maintain minimal fuel consumption;
• Fill in refueling data in logbook and fuel control sheets and presents to the Dispatcher fuel bills at the end of the trip;
• Check the mechanical condition of the vehicle before the trip: fluid levels, wheels, tyres, lights, inspects for eventual leaking of fuel and oil, checks body condition;
• Complete vehicle checklist once a week and/or upon each hand over;
• Ensure vehicle is parked in a safe area at all times;
• Be present for the loading and offloading of goods when necessary and confirm that the quantity corresponds with relevant documentation;
• Ensure cargo is loaded and secure as per vehicle specifications;
• Responsible for goods documentation; ensure they are duly signed by receiver upon offloading and returned to dispatcher

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

• Minimum O level with relevant Diploma or equivalent,
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position,
• Previous working experience with International Organizations (preferred),
• Heavy commercial vehicle driving license all categories for at least 5 years with certification in driving a trailer,
• Driving experience as an international driver (especially neighboring countries) major asset,
• Master 4×4 and VHF/ HF use,
• Basic Mechanical skills,
• Excellent command of written and spoken English,
• Willing to work irregular schedules to destinations within and outside Kenya,
• Certificate of good conduct,
• Must be a Kenyan Citizen.
