Associate – Grants Officer  (2200001A)
The Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, not-for-profit, international University first established in 1983, with 13 teaching sites in eight countries. AKU has seven hospitals and over 250 outreach health centres.  The University is a non-denominational institution open to all, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender or national origin.  Since 2001, AKU has offered academic programmes in nursing, medicine and education for and in countries in East Africa.

The Aga Khan University – Finance Department, invites applications for the following position:



The position holder is to monitor the financial progress of research and programmatic grants by preparing grant budgets, developing grant financial reports as per the granting agency guidelines, analyse variances.  Work independently and closely with the programmatic team to ensure financial compliance during the grant implementation.  This position will also support grant audits and financial accounting for grants.

Main Responsibilities:-

  1. Working closely with the Principal investigators to ensure that all project activities are allocated accurate costs and are reflected on the project budget

  2. Ensure that the budgets are prepared taking into consideration the AKU policies and granting agencies terms and conditions

  3. Preparation of internal grants reports to be shared with the Principal investigators

  4. Prepare donors reports as per their specifications and on a timely and accurate basis.

  5. Facilitate external grant financial audit

  6. Review requisitions raised by the different departments to ensure spending is within the approved budget

  7. Any other responsibility as may be assigned by the supervisor.

 To qualify you will have:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and/or Finance as well as a CPA(K);

  • Minimum 2-3 years relevant work experience;

  • Computer proficiency  as well as have the ability to analyze, interpret and comment on policy rules and regulations;

  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork and building partnerships.
