The School

St Andrew’s, Turi is one of the leading international schools in Africa. Founded as a Preparatory School in 1931, it has grown to comprise of both Preparatory and Senior Schools. St Andrew’s is a full boarding school, situated on a beautiful 450-acre site on the western slopes of the Rift Valley North West of Nairobi, and at 2500m (making it malaria free) where the wonderful climate makes it one of the most sought after places to live in Kenya.

St Andrew’s has a strong Christian foundation and ethos, which continue to define and   govern the nature and work of the School. The School has 600 students from over 25 nations, with the majority hailing from Africa. The School’s distinctive Christian character is evident in all aspects of School life, with children from all faith backgrounds welcome.

St Andrew’s School, Turi is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The successful applicant will undertake their role and responsibilities in accordance with St Andrew’s School Safeguarding and Child Protection Guidelines and will be required to undergo all checks relevant to the post.

The Role

The Assistant Head Academic (AHA), reporting to the Deputy Head Academic, is a member of the Senior School Management Team (SSMT) and a leading member of the Academic Management Team.

Alongside more generic duties connected to being a member of the SSMT, responsibilities of the AHA include managing or leading on data analysis, timetabling, assessments, reporting and cover, as well as line managing different teams. The successful candidate will be well supported in their post, and will be offered quality continuing professional development as they grow in their role and their leadership.

Please note that, while this is a significant whole school responsibility, the successful candidate will also have up to a 0.7 teaching timetable. With departing staff teaching in the Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics and Sociology (teaching posts to be advertised separately), an ability to teach one of these would be an advantage – but for the right candidate there is flexibility to teach other specialisms.
