Major Donor Project Manager

Location: Based in Nairobi, with a possibility for working remotely if not in Nairobi

Contract: Permanent: Full time consultancy contract for five months

Starting date: ASAP

MSF Eastern Africa came into being in 2021, growing out of the Nairobi Branch Office. The section is the regional institutional office for MSF in Eastern Africa and focusses on representation and networking, including with humanitarian organisations and authorities, recruiting and supporting staff from the region, communications and fundraising, as well as on other dossiers of importance to MSF such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), mutualisation, trainings, medical operational support and environmental health.

The office first launched FR from the Kenyan public in 2019 and further developing fundraising focusing on major donors including high net worth individuals, corporate donors and philanthropists is a key element of our strategic plan for the coming two years.

Job context  

The Major Donor Project Manager/consultant will complete the market assessment and develop policies and plans to allow for the development of this element fundraising. This will include the recruitment and induction of a Fundraising Manager who will carry forward the major donors fundraising plans.  

The position will report to the Head of Communications and Fundraising and be a part of that wider team. He/she will lead in their area of work to create the FR strategy for the section from major donors for the years ahead.

Key responsibilities and tasks

  1. Complete the market assessment for major donor fundraising in Kenya, including from high net worth individuals, corporates and philanthropists, including the regional possibilities from those based within Nairobi (e.g. corporates with regional HQs)  
  2. Create a five-year plan of major donor FR objectives and resourcing plans and assist in their acceptance within the movement
  3. Develop policies for accepting major gifts within the region in line with MSF´s global approach
  4. Develop the job description and interim workplan for a FR Manager
  5. Take part in the recruitment and induction of the FR Manager
  6. Work in a way that is consistent with MSF´s global fundraising policies and approaches, and according to our ethical guidelines

Requirements

  1. At least five years’ experience of fundraising from major donors  
  2. Solid understanding of undertaking assessments and developing fundraising strategies
  3. Experience of fundraising in MSF will be a strong asset
  4. Strong English writing skills

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Based in Nairobi, with a possibility for working remotely if not in Nairobi
  2. Full-time consultancy contract for five months
  3. A competitive remuneration will be offered that includes recognition of previous relevant experience and relocation support and local hosting expenses in Nairobi where applicable.
  4. Start date: ASAP
