COUNTY DIRECTOR (LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION) – JOB GROUP “R”
– ONE [1] POST Advert No. 21/2021/2022 RE–ADVERTISED
Salary scale: Ksh.115, 290 x 5,770 – 121,060 x 6,050 – 127,110 x 6,240 – 133,350 x 6,420 – 139,770 x 6,610 – 146,380 x 6, 790 – 153,170 p.m.
Terms of Service: Contract
Director will be responsible to the Chief Officer in charge of Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Management for management and coordination of the Livestock Production function.
Duties and Responsibilities
(i) Coordinating extension activities which include field days, agricultural
shows, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits;
(ii) Participating in development of public/private initiatives and overall
policy formulation;
(iii) Preparing technical information in animal production, livestock
marketing, range management, apiculture, and ranching;
(iv) Promoting economic livestock farming;
(v) Resourcing in technical workshops and seminars;
(vi) Researching, inventing and advising on livestock production technologies
and techniques;
(vii) Developing livestock production programmes/projects;
(viii) Preparing agribusiness, ranch and farm plans;
(ix) Establishing linkages with research institutions and other stakeholders on
livestock production matters;
(x) Coordinating conservation and utilizations of range resources; and other
duties will include overseeing extension activities; overseeing the
implementation of livestock information management systems;
coordinating monitoring and evaluation of livestock programmes;
preparing technical papers and reports for professional forums and
symposia; and participating in formulation of livestock bi-
lateral/multilateral agreements. Performance management, planning,
supervision and deployment of staff in the directorate.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –
(i) Served in the grade of Senior Assistant Director of Livestock Production
or in an equivalent and relevant position in a busy organization for a
minimum period of three (3) years;
(ii) Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Animal Science,
Animal Production, Agriculture, Apiculture, Food Science and Technology, Agribusiness, Range Management, Natural Resource
Management, Livestock/Agricultural Economics, Diary Technology or
Agricultural Education and Extension from a recognized institution;
(iii) Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: – Animal Science,
Animal Production, Agriculture, Apiculture, Agribusiness, Food Science
and Technology, Agriculture and Home Economics, Range Management,
Natural Resource Management, Livestock/Agriculture Economics, Dairy
Technology, Agricultural Extension, Animal Breeding and Genetics or
Animal Nutrition form a recognized institution;
(iv) A certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting
not less than six (6) weeks or its equivalent from a recognized Institution;
Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institutions; and
(v) Shown outstanding administrative capability and professional
competence required in managing livestock production services.
