Business Purpose/Objective The job holder will be primarily responsible for providing quality clinical and anaesthetic services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Monitoring and providing appropriate clinical care (medical and surgical-anesthesia) to patients on hospital wards and in outpatient clinics

● Admitting patients requiring special care followed by investigations and treatment

● Examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions

● Carrying out specific procedures, e.g. performing operations and specialist investigations within scope of practice

● Making notes and preparing paperwork, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other healthcare professionals

● Referrals will be admitted to the medical ward for investigation, and treatment if appropriate

● Medical care will conform to best practice and meet contract target and service specifications

● The anesthetist will inform the referring facility of inpatient and outpatient progress

● A preliminary discharge summary will be issued to each patient prior to them leaving hospital, in accordance with service specifications.

● The Clinical Officer is to coordinate and discuss planned care with the patient and other team professionals as appropriate

● Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all staff and patients

● Ensure that patients are kept fully informed of and understand all procedures and treatments to be undertaken. Informed Consent will be obtained from patients in accordance with Jacaranda policy

● The Clinical Officer will take an active role in health promotion and disease prevention

● Provide advice to patients regarding healthy lifestyles and specific measures that may help the patient avoid a recurrence of ill health

● Maintain patient rights, and be aware of cultural differences when dealing with patients

● Should the Clinical Officer receive or become aware of complaints relating to the standard of care and/or the treatment of patients, or professional attitudes toward staff, these shall be referred to the Director of Clinical Operations and discussed with the Hospital Manager.

● Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment

● A maximum of 30 min response time for emergencies on scheduled shifts

● Any other duties as assigned.


● Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Anaesthesia Option).

● Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.

● Hold a valid practicing license.


● Position holder should have at least 2 years’ experience working as a licensed Clinical Officer – Anesthetist in a busy maternity institution and experience in working in a start up maternity facility

Knowledge and Skills


● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

● Excellent analytical reasoning skills and meticulous attention to detail

● Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
