Job Title: Underwriting Officer
Business Unit: Sanlam General Insurance Limited
Reporting to: Underwriting Supervisor

Purpose:
The role will be responsible for analysing and assessing the risk
presented to the organization through the proposal submitted
and based on the underwriting guidelines provided by the
Group.


Primary responsibilities:
• Evaluating risks proposed and prescribe rates and terms to commensurate with level of risk before acceptance;
• Preparing and processing debits/credits endorsements for both renewals and new business;
• Reviewing renewal notices based on claims experience;
• Issuing and signing policy documents;
• Providing quotations to intermediaries and clients;
• Processing premium refunds to customers;
• Processing Insurance premium finance cancellation notices and refunds to banks;
• Risk champion for the finance department and intermediate between finance and risk and compliance department.
• Responding and attending to customer enquiries;
• Preparing monthly reports i.e loss ratio’s, renewal notices, lapse reports.
• Reconciling of underwriting issues;
• Issuing certificates, yellow cards and cover notes for intermediaries allocated;
• Cancellation of polices due to non – payment of premiums.


Minimum qualifications
Academic Qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in Business / Insurance or its equivalent from a recognized institution.


Experience
• Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience.

Skills and Attributes
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Excellent planning and organizational skills;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
• Knowledgeable with industry rules and regulations; and
• Results driven and customer focused.
