About Yetu Initiative
Yetu Initiative or simply Yetu (meaning “ours” in Kiswahili) is a partnership project funded by the Aga Khan Foundation and USAID. Since inception in 2014, Yetu has worked with civil society organizations (CSOs) rooted in the communities they serve to advance the principles of self- reliance and locally sustained development. To ensure sustainability and community ownership, Yetu trains CSOs on how to mobilize local resources – not just money, but in-kind contributions of time and assets. Yetu enables CSOs to build better community engagements, and strengthen linkages and trust with like-minded Kenyan organizations, businesses, foundations, governments, and individual citizens.
Job Objective
To support Yetu Initiative finance work
Reporting
The finance intern will directly report to Yetu Initiative Finance Manager but may also be assigned duties by Yetu Director and AKF Regional CFO.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Preparing payment requests for Yetu activities including participants reimbursements, mileage claims, champions payments and other expenses while ensuring supporting documents are adequate and complete.
- Follow up with staff time sheets ensuring they are completed and submitted monthly.
- Supporting Yetu staff with surrender of travel expenses and per diem claims.
- Reconciliation of staff travel advance accounts and providing regular updates on the status to the staff.
- Preparing VAT refund claims for USAID where necessary
- Filling of finance documents.
- Any other assignments that may be given
Qualifications
- A university degree preferably in accounting
- CPA level II is desirable
