JOB DESCRIPTION.

Our GroR platform enables smallholder farmers to access off-takers by ensuring full chain of custody and high-quality crops. We provide them with the right quality inputs, access to capital and risk-mitigation as well as training. In our current projects, we are present in Tharaka-Nithi, Makueni, Lamu, Meru, Kitui, Kilifi, Tana River and Embu.

Grain Connect Ltd is seeking a talented and experienced Field Agronomist with field travels to surrounding counties and hubs, to join our growing agricultural business to expand our GroR platform.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in implementation and further developing dynamic farmer income progression plan by interacting with our selected 50 golden farmers and enroll additional up to 150 new farmers in 2023.
  • Our golden farmer dynamic income progression plan consists of the following main points:2023 – Produce exclusive to GroR green grams and red cow peas – focus on soil health and farmer P&L training – subsidized seeds to farmers and follow up visits
  • 2024 -No Till, Inoculated Seeds +25% seeds, soil cover/composting. Regenerative agriculture training
  • 2025 -1 Ha land expand taking farmer past $2,000 net income
  • 2026 –3-10 Ha land expansion & virtual co-ops – net profits above $5,000
  • Conducting surveys and research to assess the needs of industry sectors such as crop production and developing and implementing plans to improve agricultural productivity and efficiency.
  • Develop models and forecasts to assess the impact of changes in policy, weather, and other conditions on the agricultural sector and articulate the needed scaling investments for field-ready agricultural innovations

Key Competencies (skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience working in the agricultural industry
  • Proven track record in working with small holder farmers
  • Meru and Tharaka Nithi cultural and language knowledge
  • Knowledgeable about regenerative agricultural techniques
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to travel in Meru and Tharaka Nithi to visit our small holder farmers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Sense of humor and a tremendous wish to improve small holder farmers’ life while being part of a profitable and sustainable company
