RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare the annual grant-making plan in consultation with Co-Directors

  • Prepare grant call guidelines draft to get inputs from the Advisory Board and Funders

  • Manage online platform to receive proposals

  • Manage communication with applicants

  • Compile and edit nominations and full proposals dockets for Advisors’ review

  • Maintain a good communication flow with members of the Advisory Board regarding grant cycles

  • Facilitate calls with Advisors and Funders to discuss grants recommendations

  • Provide support for the internal evaluations of each grant cycle carried out by the Advisory Board

  • Communicate the grant calls results to applicants and instructions to those with approved grants

  • Coordinate due diligence and wire transfers with AEF’s fiscal sponsor

  • Monitor and document the grantmaking workflow processes, forms, templates, reports, and data to ensure full compliance with internal controls and fiscal sponsor requirements

  • Problem-solve complex grant scenarios in consultation with the Co-Directors and AEF’s fiscal sponsor

  • Provide advisory support to the grantmaking process for the Regional Funds as required

  • Generate reports and data analysis on the grant program as needed

  • Collaborate on other related special projects as required

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The Grants Lead will be:

  • Someone motivated by an appreciation for the Agroecology Fund’s mission to “mobilize resources to build power that transforms food systems and fosters the well-being of people and the planet”

  • At the mid-level of their career, with at least 10 years of experience in the development sector

  • Be familiar with grant-making processes

  • Be familiar with agroecology movements and current issues in agroecology

  • Be familiar with the philanthropic sector

  • Someone with international working experience

  • Someone that can balance strong attention to detail and analytical skills with an engaging, consultative, relationship-focused approach to working with people

  • Someone with good written and oral communication skills in English and at least one additional language (French or Spanish)

  • Someone with good computer and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

  • Motivated to work in a multicultural environment

  • Able to work on Eastern Standard Time (EST)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Time: Full-time position, open-ended contract

  • Status: Employee or consultant depending on worker location

  • Compensation: Salary range is $75,000 – $90,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience for employees based in the U.S., or regional-equivalent salary if outside of the U.S.

  • Benefit package: Varies by location and by status as employee or consultant

  • Approximate start date: September 2023

  • Location: Virtual, but should be able to work on Eastern Standard Time (EST)

  • Reports to Co-Director
