Title: Measuring the medium-term impact of school-based interventions as girls transition into adulthood (CCG2)

Project description

The project is being conducted by the Kenya Medical Research Institute in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

This research comprises multi-disciplinary clinical and observational studies among adolescent girls and young women in rural western Kenya. The main project follows-up girls previously enrolled in a trial conducted in Siaya County. It will examine the potential effect of prior trial interventions on participants’ health, and social equity, maternal outcomes of pregnancy, and perceived value of trial participation and interventions. Candidate will have opportunities to also work on parallel studies conducted by the team.

Position: Research Scientist (Social Science)  KMR 6 (1 position)

Location: Kisumu/Siaya County

Reports to: Principal Investigator

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Community Health, Social Work, Community Development or related discipline from a recognized institution
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, Kiswahili and Dholuo
  • Only female applicants will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Take part in community engagement and sensitization activities
  • Document the key methods/procedures of the study
  • Interview, moderate or take notes during focus groups interviews, in-depth interviews, transect walks, and girls’ journal
  • Transcribe and translate collected data into English language
  • Code and analyze transcripts
  • Write summary reports based on the work conducted
  • Read, evaluate and precis relevant literature
  • Assist in drafting papers for publication in scientific journals
  • Disseminate results within communities and contribute to publications and presentations
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Terms of Employment:

One-year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period in the first 3 months

Remuneration: The salary scale is based on applicable KEMRI salary scale.
