Roles & Responsibilities
● Build and oversee Essential’s operations and pilot plant in Kenya
○ Help build Essential’s Kenya pilot plant and manage the day-to-day operations of the
plant
○ Oversee all supply chain and logistics, including sourcing and procurement of raw
materials and coordination of product delivery to customers
○ Develop and maintain key relationships with suppliers and partners across the value
chain as well as key regulators and policy makers in Kenya
○ Contribute to building organizational capabilities and processes, including financial
controls, operational protocols, HR policies, and other relevant systems
● Lead technical operations for Essential’s pilot plant
○ Ensure that the pilot facility runs effectively and efficiently
○ Work with executive team to ensure the overall management of safety and security for
the pilot plant
○ Develop and implement standard operating procedures for production processes and
ensure that the pilot plant is in line with all regulatory, safety, and compliance standards
○ Ensure that the team has proper training to operate the system safely and effectively
○ Ensure that all equipment is property maintained and calibrated
● Focus on continuously improving Essential’s processes

○ Continuously evaluate and optimize production processes to increase efficiency, reduce
costs, and enhance quality
○ Drive operational excellence to achieve efficiency, quality and cost-effectiveness in all
functions and operations
○ Identify, register, and manage risks to make sure that Essential operates safely and
efficiently
● Help build Essential’s team and organizational culture
○ Identify, recruit, and retain best-in-class entrepreneurial staff for Essential
○ Develop and implement hiring processes to recruit, hire, onboard new staff
○ Ensure that all staff in Kenya comply with company policies and procedures
○ Steward a healthy and empowering office environment that encourages open, honest,
and productive communication
Experience & Skills
● Passion for building high-impact, scalable organizations in East Africa
● 7+ years of experience building and supporting organizations with capabilities in manufacturing
● Experience in building new manufacturing lines and plants, including a familiarity with
regulation, safety, and best practices in processes and protocols
● Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills
● Leadership experience in building high-performing teams and cultivating a positive and effective
team culture
● Experience building efficient and effective processes for start-up organizations
● Experience building strong relationships with government, non-profit, and for-profit partners
● Comfort in making fast-paced strategic pivots and navigating teams through uncertainty and
ambiguity
● Ability to identify and capitalize on strategic opportunities for the organization
● Strong professional verbal, written, visual communication and presentation skills
● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
