AFIDEP and its partners: PATH Foundation Philippines, Inc (PFPI), Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD), Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and FHI360 are implementing a project titled Building Capacity for Integrated FP/RH and PED Action (BUILD) funded by USAID Washington.  The project seeks to address interlinked Population, Environment and Development (PED) challenges for sustainable development in low and middle-income countries to enable integrated FP/RH and PED action using the Systems Thinking approach.

AFIDEP therefore invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Project Assistant. The position will be based in our Kenya office with responsibilities to support the office the BUILD Project Director.

 Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Assistant will be responsible for the administrative processes and support functions in the project.

Specifically, she/he will undertake the following:

  1. Organize and monitor schedules and see that deadlines are met
  2. Promptly organise project meetings as scheduled ensure all participants are alerted
  3. Accurately take notes of the meetings and share with the participants after review by the Project Director or PED Director
  4. In close collaboration with the AFIDEP Administrative Assistant, implement logistical arrangements and follow up for project meetings and events.
  5. Maintain the project’s filing system and ensure prompt sharing of reports and resource materials.
  6. Draft events programmes for review by the Project Director
  7. Frequently map upcoming health, environment, water, food security, gender and youth global, regional and national events and maintain a clear register
  8. Maintain communication with the other departments of AFIDEP and update the on the BUILD project
  9. Report updates verbally and in written form to the Project Director
  10. Complete any necessary administrative tasks as may be assigned by the Project Director


Qualifications & experience

  • The candidate shall have a Master’s degree in Public Health, Economics, Population Studies, Environmental Science or other social sciences
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience working as a Project Assistant
  • Demonstrated track record in supporting Project Directors/Managers in project implementation
  • Proven track record in engagement with both government and non-governmental actors.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent skills in planning and implementing meeting and events logistics
  • Ability to write minutes and events reports
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with an output-based mindset,
  • Ability to set and meet project goals within required timeframes
  • Excellent critical and creative thinking and analytical skills
