Job Title: Human Rights Officer
Status Full: Time
Location: Nairobi
Reports to: EACSOF National Coordinator

The Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development (CCGD) is a gender equality and non-discrimination organization. CCGD has a long history of conducting research, policy/legal advocacy and practical engagement in policy and law analysis, advocacy and formulation processes. It contributes to supporting processes that lead to the enactment of laws and policies that promote gender equality and non-discrimination. The Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of a Human Rights Officer. The candidate will be reporting to the East African Civil Society Organizations’ Forum Kenya Chapter National Coordinator.


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Human Rights Support Officer shall perform the following among other duties and responsibilities:


JOB DESCRIPTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS SUPPORT OFFICER
The main purpose of this position is to support programs that promote civic rights in Kenya and within the East African region.
Specific areas of support include the following:
• Support in organizing and coordinating activities on the protection of civic space in the and in particular the protection of civic space in East Africa platform.
• Support in organizing and coordinating activities on the economic justice advocacy for small scale cross border traders in the East African region.
• The Human Rights Officer will support the programme officer in the running of the day to day activities of the protection of civic space platform.
• Ensuring smooth collaboration and synergy with Civil Society Refer-ence Group (CSRG) and EACSOF and respective partners
• Assist to monitor implementation of the EACSOF communication and advocacy Strategy
• Assist in developing IEC materials for EACSOF programs including posters, policy briefs, etc.
• Support EACSOF Coordinator to prepare reports
• Assist to prepare quarterly and bi-annual EACSOF electronic newslet-ters
• Support Implementation of the Legal Aid Assistance activities and other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

1Qualifications and Experience Requirements
• Minimum of a first degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies or related fields.
• Interest in civil society and non-profit organization work.
• Strong research, writing and communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong internet research skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Works well under pressure with minimal supervision and in a multi-cultural environment.
• Proactive, willing to learn and take initiative.
• Works well as part of a team.
