Job purpose: |
Manage Ripple Effect’s strategic content planning and production to establish Ripple Effect as an authoritative voice in our specialist areas, and inspire positive change in rural Africa. |
Learning & skills |
Minimum of 3 years’ experience of content production – all sectors considered. Working for an international organisation or a variety of audiences is desirable. Experience in journalistic videography needed. This role requires experience of managing your own projects and timelines. |
Creativity & reasoning |
Creative storytelling and bringing challenging narratives to life through, narratives (stories), film and photography is key to this role. You will need to act with sensitivity and compassion to find the most appropriate story and tell it with dignity. You will learn a good understanding of our myriad supporters, donors and partners and be able to tailor the content accordingly. |
Communication & interaction |
When working directly with project participants, you will need to communicate with sensitivity and compassion to find the most appropriate story and tell it with dignity. You will have access to sensitive information and will need to be respectful of people’s backgrounds and cultures and adapt your approach accordingly. This role will be at the heart of the organisation, collecting content for a number of teams so good communication skills are needed to ensure clarity. You will also be providing training to staff members and working with external contributors. |
Stewardship |
There is no line management responsibility in this role, but you will be required to work alongside and assist other staff members. This role will research, advise and be responsible for commissioning external writers, photographers, videographers and managing travel budgets. There are no direct revenue generation targets in this role: the Communications team supports all the fundraising teams and works towards common goals. You will have clear KPIs to work towards.You will be responsibility for the purchase and maintenance of some equipment such as cameras, drones etc. You will need to understand our consent procedures in line with both GDPR (training will be provided) and best practice. |
Judgements & actions |
You will work closely with the rest of the Communications team – who are based in the UK, as well as the staff in the Ripple Effect country office. You will manage your own workload, acting within guidelines agreed with the Director of Communications & Marketing (in the UK) and respective CD. You will make operational decisions in regard to the content of the organisation. Challenging or strategic decisions will be supported by the Director. |
Working environment |
Our working environment is welcoming and co-operative. We offer flexible and hybrid working and will offer you space in our friendly office, as well as assisting you to work from home. You will need to travel within your country and internationally to collect content and work with other staff members from Ripple Effect. This will require some out of hours travel and work. Key accountabilities: (i) Support all teams on identifying content needs and managing the annual content calendar to inspire existing and new support. (ii) Manage, develop and assess the new Ripple Effect visual brand (iii)Manage content collection (stories, photography, videography, live streams) either directly, by working with other staff members, or through external commissions. (iv) Create engaging content for use on- and off-line (v) Research and testing innovations for storytelling (vi) Provide training for staff in content collection |
