Reports to: Development Director

Department: Strathmore University Foundation

Basic job Summary: To promote stewardship and proper appreciation of donors through robust stewardship and communication services

Duties & Responsibilities:

Communications
To lead in the development and implementation of Strathmore University Foundation communication strategy.
To develop periodic newsletters and stewardship materials that communicate the Strathmore way, communicate success and can attract potential supporters to Strathmore University.
To integrate the Foundation’s communications content with the University’s for effective and consistent communication.
To proactively study and advise on approaches that can enhance visibility of the Foundation’s brand.
To create and maintain a database of media contacts and develop healthy relationships with media personalities in both print, TV and online media.
To compose documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style, grammar and content appropriate to specific audiences.
To collect and develop content (Visual, audiovisual and written) and monitor upgrade and update of Strathmore University Foundation’s website.
To develop brochures, fliers and all other materials that will facilitate resource mobilization.
To manage the Foundations social media platforms through creative, accurate, timely, curated and targeted messages.
To create online giving and event registration pages, e – communications and e – appeals to increase philanthropic support and participation.
Stewardship
To design and maintain a comprehensive stewardship plan.
To maintain records of funding proposals made by all University departments.
To maintain an accurate record of all donations and pledges to the Foundation and or University and ensure all donations received are properly receipted.
To attend and assists in the organization of special events and fundraisers.
To provide financial reports from Kuali on use of donor funds
To coordinate the processing and prompt acknowledgement of gifts, pledges, pledge payments and other contributions to the University.
To ensure that donor gifts are managed and administered according to donor specification and guidelines and that reports to donors are made in a timely and accurate manner.
To ensure donor relations database is maintained at all time.
To update donor profiles and monitor changes in interests.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Marketing and related areas.
Experience:

At least 1 years’ experience in fundraising, donor relations and stewardship, communications, sales or marketing.
Experience in a higher education or research environment is an added advantage.
Working with academics or other experts in their field
Knowledgeable of alumni fundraising.
Skills and Knowledge:

Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
Capacity to provide strategic input into Strathmore University Foundation
Basic understanding of fundraising concepts and fundraising landscape especially in higher education and civil society space in Africa
Experience in project cycle management
Capacity to acquire and maintain a sound understanding of partners
Representation and relationship – building skills
Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of high – level contacts with partners, government, private sector players, non – government organizations, and with other relevant local and international organizations and donors
Strong interpersonal skills, including a high degree of cultural awareness and sensitivity
Ability to represent and make presentations on behalf of Strathmore University Foundation in a range of fora.
Capacity to create and maintain a close working relationship with the SU and SUF staff especially the administrative support of the Strathmore University
Communication
Strong communication skills – both oral and written.
Demonstrated experience in the dissemination of corporate and program information to stakeholders and to contribute to the implementation of the communication and information strategies including working with media and communications techniques including social media, websites, newsletters and video.
Strategic, analytical and judgement skills
Highly developed ability to research and analyze diverse information to improve strategies and promote a strategic vision in accordance with SUF priorities
Demonstrated ability to work with initiative and to exercise independent judgement
Well – developed capacity to identify and solve conceptual and other problems in a complex, dynamic and diverse environment.
Administration
Proven experience and skills in managing and performing a variety of administrative work, especially in office management, budgets, asset management, records and risk management, accountability and compliance.
Shown capabilities to build capacity of other staff through training, mentoring and performance management.
Contribute to institutional responsibilities; reporting and briefings
A good understanding of financial reporting.
