KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
POSITION: RESIDENT ANESTHESIOLOGIST
LOCATION: AVENUE HOSPITAL PARKLANDS
DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL SERVICES
REPORTS TO: MEDICAL SERVICES MANAGER
Main Purpose of the Job
To provide and ensure quality Anesthesiology and Critical Care services within the Avenue group in line with the company policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities
1. Attend to all patients who require theater services pre-operative, intra-operative, post-operative within hospital standard operating procedures, national and internationally guidelines.
2. Conducting timely ward rounds/review patients in the hospital ICU and other hospital units in line with the hospital standard operating procedures, national, and international treatment guidelines.
3. Accurate and clear documentation of patient history, physical examination, investigations, and management.
4. Provide clarity of investigations to be carried out and interpretation of the results and ensure update to the patients and the next of kin.
5. Facilitate patient admissions, necessary consents, and discharges.
6. Counsel clients on treatment and compliance to treatment (patient and family) while ensuring their participation in decision making in their management.
7. Carry out procedures and surgical interventions as per authorized/licensed privileges while ensuring high quality of care/services and safety of patients.
8. Conduct family conferences in line with hospital standard operating procedures
9. Participate in morbidity and mortality audits and meetings.
10. Participation in incident reporting, root cause analysis and Quality Improvement Plan
11. Participate in the continuous review and improvement of departmental standard operating procedures
12. Facilitate Continuous Medical Education, mentorship, and skills training to colleagues
13. Acquiring new skills on best practices and proactively facilitate implementation.
14. Maintain a positive work attitude and foster teamwork.
15. Always maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
16. Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care, communication, feedback and escalation and demonstrate follow-up and improvement.
Person Specification
Holder of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Master’s Degree in Anaesthesiology
Specialist Recognition
A valid KMPDB license
Updated BLS, ACLS/ATLS certificate
Experience as an Anesthesiologist will be an added advantage.
