Branch Accountant
Job Purpose
The Branch Accountant is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing tax returns, assisting with audit preparations and performing other accounting duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities of a Branch Accountant
- Maintain and oversee branch accounting records, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventory control.
- Prepare and analyze branch-level Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports on a monthly basis.
- Ensure accuracy of all branch financial transactions, including sales, collections, expenses and petty cash management.
- Post stocks received from the Head office and ensure stocks in the system reconcile with the physical quantities held in the warehouse.
- Post other supplier invoices and reconcile with Supplier statements in addition to following up with the Head office for payment.
- Receive Account opening forms from Sales Reps, do KYC and conduct due diligence on the customers before forwarding to Branch Manager for approval and thereafter coordinating with the IT team for account opening.
- Post and allocate WHVAT to the respective customer accounts.
- Reconcile Van Sales with collections and stocks.
- Prepare credit notes for customers for returns and offers.
- Perform bank reconciliations, supplier reconciliations and inter-branch account reconciliations.
- Support audits by providing required documentation and explanations for branch accounts.
- Work closely with the Head Office Fiance team to ensure compliance with company accounting standards and reporting timelines.
- Provide financial insights to the Branch Manager for operational and strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and control branch operating expenses and ensure adherence to budgets.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements for the casuals.
- Assist with monthly payroll preparation and close of the month end books.
- Execute on Branch HR and Admin work.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Branch Manager or the Finance Manager.
Measures
- Collection of customer payments as per the credit terms.
- Posting customer payment – 1 day after receipt of settlement cheque.
- Customer payment W/VAT to KRA – 5 days after deductions.
- Compliance – VAT deadline 10th of the following month.
- Reconcile all banks and perform month end close procedures by the 5th of each month.
Education Requirements and Previous Work Experience of a Branch Accountant
- ACCA/CPA (K) or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a busy work environment.
- Knowledge and experience of related computer applications.
- Knowledge of computation, tabulation and spreadsheet.
- Effective customer/public relation skill.

- Can work with minimum supervision.
- Excellent Communication Skills.
- Problem reporting and sharing skills.
