Position Summary:
 
The M&E and Training Coordinator, under the supervision of the Centre Manager, will be hired full-time and is responsible for conducting ongoing monitoring and evaluation to improve regionally contextualized safety trainings for journalists as well as promote knowledge sharing, participant tracking and evaluation, and produce reports to share key findings and analysis of results. The M&E Coordinator will also work in collaboration with the team to develop and maintain the curriculum, as well as help with the coordination of training logistics (accommodation, lodging, transportation, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Training Program Coordinator:
  • In coordination with the Center Manager ensure that the project is implemented according to project plan through monitoring workshop outcomes;
  • Assist Center Manager as directed, and work in collaboration with Finance Manager to organize accommodations, transportation, meetings and other necessary activities for visiting journalists;
  • Coordinate follow-up with training participants;
M&E Coordinator:
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation of trainings and materials to address any deficiencies and identify trainings to be added in order to monitor training quality and implementation;
  • In coordination with Center Manager, design, lead, and document evaluation activities to examine program impact on beneficiaries;
  • Assist with evaluation of Monitoring and Evaluation tools and identifying best practices along with other centers’ and center staff;
  • Draft training and activity reports, analyzing results and trends within data for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Based on findings and evidence, support program staff in developing strategies for program improvement;
  • Provide quality training and activity data, as well as promptly respond to any other monthly or quarterly reporting requests; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Regional Center Manager.
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelors in relevant field required.
  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in leading project Monitoring and Evaluation and Learning efforts or strong background in data collection, analysis, and reporting preferred;
  • Experience conducting M&E for training and education projects is highly preferred;
  • Experience in using data management systems;
  • Experience of mainstreaming gender equality and/or social inclusion when conducting M&E and in program implementation generally highly preferred;
  • Analytical capability and experience of report-writing and presenting key findings and recommendations in a clear and comprehensive manner;
  • Substantial experience working in high-risk environment or emergency situations;
  • Additional language skills (especially working proficiency in written and spoken Amharic, Somali, Arabic) and/or experience working in different East African countries highly preferred;
  • Experience in designing, establishing and tailoring M&E tools and processes;
  • Additional academic or professional experience in related professions (in particular journalism, or law) is strongly preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of the East African operating environment, especially as it relates to the media and civil society landscape;
  • Ability to consistently provide high quality work through maintaining accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships with partners;
  • Excellent communicator and mentor in face-to-face meetings as well as in remote/online settings;
  • Ability to communicate and train across different cultures;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and provide high quality written reporting in English;
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English;
  • Valid passport and travel permission, for potential international travel;
  • Legal resident of Kenya with authorization to work (IREX is not able to sponsor or otherwise support work visas for this position); and
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and adapt to new program activity requirements and helping others to stay on track.
